Dr. McConnell graduated from University of Utah School of Medicine in 1992 with her M.D.. She completed her colon and rectal fellowship with special emphasis in immunological oncology in 2000 at the Mayo Clinic - Rochester (MN). In 2004, she received her Board Certification in Colon and Rectal Surgery. She has been practicing in the Phoenix, AZ area since 2000 and has been named as one of the "Top Docs" in 2007, 2008 and 2009. She specializes in: Laparoscopic Colon and Rectal Resections Anorectal Surgery Colonoscopy
She is a Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (FASCRS), and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. McConnell owns and directs the Arizona Outpatient Surgery Center (AOS), an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) currently specializing in outpatient colon, anal and rectal surgeries.

Office Staff

Denise Arias, Business Manager
Denise has worked in the medical field in Arizona for 9 years. She obtained a certificate in the Medical Assistant (MA) Training program in 2000 and worked in a Cardiology Office as Medical Assistant for three years. Denise joined Dr. McConnell’s staff as a front desk receptionist and medical assistant. She currently supervises the staff of two busy offices as well as several contract employees.

Jessica Cerda, Medical Assistant
Jessica earned her Medical Assistant (MA) certification in Arizona and has worked in a General Surgery Office and a Pediatrics office before joining Dr. McConnell’s practice in 2006. She currently works as Dr. McConnell’s medical assistant and referral coordinator.

J D Ray, Surgery Scheduler
J D has worked in the medical field for over 15 years in Arizona. Before joining Dr. McConnell’s office in 2005, she worked in an OB/GYN office performing all office duties, including scheduling. In her current position, she devotes all her time to surgery scheduling.

Carolina Hernandez, Front Office Assistant
Carolina recently joined Dr. McConnell’s practice and has experience in an optometry office. She devotes most of her time to front office reception and performs clinical assistant duties as needed.

Haide Ramirez, Medical Assistant
Haide joined Dr. McConnell's practice in 2010. She earned her Medical Assistant Certificate in 2003 and has worked in rheumatology, family practice, medical billing/collections and colorectal surgery before joining Dr. McConnell's practice. In addition to working front and back office, Haide does colonoscopy scheduling.

Elayne Achilles, Assistant Administrator
Elayne recently joined Dr. McConnell’s practice and has experience in non-profit management, educational consulting and marketing. Her responsibilities include assisting in the Arizona Outpatient Surgery Center and marketing and communications.
